Saggas managed 1,31 million tons of LNG in 2020

The plant started small-scale operations last year.

The Sagunto regasification plant has managed a total of 1.31 million tons of LNG (liquefied natural gas) in 2020. Specifically, during the past year, Saggas unloaded 1,313,818 tons of LNG, with a total production of 20,072 GWh. These data assume that Saggas has regasified 8% of the LNG introduced into the Spanish gas system.

In total, in 2020, Saggas has unloaded 21 vessels, mostly from countries such as Nigeria, Qatar, the United States, Russia, Algeria and Trinidad & Tobago. Likewise, the plant has loaded 7,179 tanker trucks, with a total of 134,941 tons of LNG.

In 2020, Saggas started small-scale operations with the cargo of 7,413 m3 of LNG on the Coral Fraseri vessel. This small-scale LNG cargo service is aimed at smaller vessels that work as vessels supplying this fuel to other vessels or to smaller LNG plants.

The plant also participated in the last phase of the transformation process of the FSRU LNG Croatia floating regasification plant, which entered into commercial operation on January 1st on the Croatian island of Krk. Particularly, Saggas developed the gassing up and cooldown operations that consisted of displacing the nitrogen in the 4 ship’s tanks by natural gas to later cool one of its tanks with LNG.
