Carbon footprint

“Reduction of methane emissions”

Saggas has raised its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint of direct emissions to the highest level through its voluntary adherence to Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), an initiative promoted by the The United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, which is part of the EU strategy to reduce methane emissions.

The voluntary adherence to Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) has the ultimate goal of reducing methane emissions as part of the natural gas value chain, through improved data accuracy, reduction plans and greater dissemination of this information.

Saggas is one of the 62 companies around the world that has joined this project, which has set the goal of reducing methane emissions by 45% in 2025 and between 60 and 75% in 2030.

Strategic carbon plan

At Saggas, our activities are developed in accordance with the principles set by European policies on climate and energy, contributing to the achievement of a sustainable energy future by reducing emissions, guaranteeing security of supply and competitiveness.

In order to integrate these principles into the business strategy and into the operational and support processes of our activities at Saggas, we have developed a Strategic Carbon Plan which establishes the following guidelines:

Integrating carbon management into the Saggas organisation as a strategic factor in business decision-making.

Quantifying the scope of greenhouse gas emissions based on the calculation of the Carbon Footprint.

Considering viable and reasonable compensation options for those emissions which cannot be avoided.

Contributing to the study on the effects of climate change within the Saggas environment.

Promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the establishment of criteria associated with supplies, which consider the carbon management component.

Adopting actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on the improvement of energy efficiency and the optimisation of processes and activities.

Collaborating in actions to promote natural gas, as a flexible energy reserve to balance the variable renewable energy supplies and as a clean alternative fuel for maritime and road transport.

Strengthening communication and actively participating in working groups, projects and actions related to the guarantee of quality, safety and diversification in the supply of natural gas, energy efficiency and the fight against climate change linked to the sustainable use of natural gas.
