Saggas has avoided the emission of around 280,000 tons of CO2e by 2020

This reduction has been possible thanks to the measures implemented by the plant in the 2014-2020 Strategic Carbon Plan.

Saggas has approved a new Strategic Carbon Plan, which will be developed between 2021 and 2026, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Sagunto regasification plant completed its first Strategic Carbon Plan in 2020, which became operational in 2014, managing to avoid the emission of around 280,000 tons of CO2e throughout this period. This reduction in emissions is mainly due to the investment of more than 10 million euros for the supply and installation of a compressor aimed at improving the efficiency of the plant’s production system. In 2020, the actions implemented have made it possible to avoid the emission of more than 19,000 tons of CO2e.

The plant has approved a new Strategic Carbon Plan for the period 2021-2026. This plan, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations, includes a set of measures that aim to avoid the emission of more than 13,000 tons of CO2e for the next coming years.

Additionally, in 2020 Saggas was one of the first 62 companies in the world to voluntarily join the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) program, an initiative promoted by the United Nations Environment Program, UNEP, which is part of the European Commission’s Strategy for the reduction of methane emissions. Through improved data reporting, OGMP 2.0 aims to reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025 and between 60% and 75% in 2030.

Commitment to the environment

Over 2020, Saggas has collaborated with 27 initiatives in the area of Sagunto and the Camp de Morvedre region. This is a lower figure than in previous years because the pandemic has affected the normal development of numerous initiatives, mainly sports and cultural ones.

Being aware of the complex situation derived from the health crisis caused by the COVID-19, the plant has intensified its efforts in social action to help alleviate the economic effects of the pandemic in its closest environment. In this regard, Saggas, in addition to remaining as a supporter of the Centre Solidari d’Aliments de Sagunt, has made an additional contribution to help face the situation generated by the health emergency.

Also, in 2020 Saggas has collaborated with cultural activities, supported sporting events, and contributed to the promotion of youth sports with its support to different sports clubs in the town. In the environmental field, thanks to the agreement it has with the Generalitat Valenciana through the CEACV, the plant has continued to carry out improvement actions in the Marjal dels Moros natural park.
