The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has awarded Saggas the Gold Standard distinction for the fourth consecutive year for its commitment to reducing methane emissions. This recognition, part of the OGMP 2.0 (Oil and Gas Methane Partnership) project, was announced during the presentation of the annual report by the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), held at COP29 in Baku.
Additionally, this year, the company’s ongoing efforts in research, collaboration, and the development of continuous improvement plans to reduce methane emissions at the plant were acknowledged. Saggas was one of the first 62 companies to voluntarily join the OGMP 2.0 initiative, which aims to reduce methane emissions throughout the natural gas value chain by improving data accuracy, implementing emission reduction plans, and increasing transparency.
Specifically, Saggas has set a goal to reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025 compared to levels recorded in 2015. So far, the emission reduction plans developed by the company have been recognized by the United Nations for the robustness of the proposed actions and their alignment with the stated objectives.
Environmental Declaration
In addition, Saggas has recently published its 2023 Environmental Declaration, a document that details the company’s environmental actions and is a requirement for compliance with the commitments acquired under the EMAS system. This Declaration has been verified by accredited entities that endorsed the company’s progress in this area.
